The Beginning of RCP

The lowest of valleys will teach you more than mountain tops ever will.

Rose Courts Photography was born in the lowest valley of my life. I learned a lot, grew the most I ever have in a season and ultimately found a passion and a fire for life that I didn’t have before.

I was let go from three full-time jobs in the span of a year. (two of which were sucking the soul out of me anyway but the other was what I thought was my dream job). I was 26 years old. I felt like a complete failure — like I was unworthy, incapable of succeeding at anything and like I had accomplished nothing in my life. I was dating an incredibly ambitious and successful business owner which, in comparison, made me feel like even worse about that state of my life.

But let’s back up a little. Before I was unemployed, my sweet husband (boyfriend at the time) bought me my first DSLR camera for my birthday. I was getting into graphic design and figured it would be good to take high-resolution images for Jacob’s construction business. I also had grown an eye for landscape photography and iPhone photos weren’t cutting it. I wanted to fill our home with the photos I had taken. Little did I know that camera would actually take me places.

While in that low valley, I made a mindset shift. I told myself that I would be the best at anything that I do. I started a job at a luxury day spa. I actually pissed off a lot of my co-workers because I was trying so hard to be the best — but that’s a story for another day.

Ok, back on track — So in the fall of 2017, while still jobless, a family member asked if I would take portraits of her kids and I said “sure! I don’t really know what I’m doing but I’m sure I can learn!” So on October 19, 2017, I took these photos of Jacob’s niece and nephew, Grace and Ethan!

To be honest, most are not great BUT for a couple, I did do the right thing without even knowing it! I threw a Photoshop filter on most of them cause I had no idea how to edit. But on that day, RCP was born I wanted to learn how to be amazing at it and that’s where it all began.

I shot my first wedding in February of 2018 and I fell in love.

I am so grateful for this sweet couple trusting my friend, Kim, and I to capture their special day! They opened up the floodgates to a passion of mine I didn’t even know I had!

I love every single part of wedding days — the feminine details, being surrounded by joyful people and, truthfully, I feed off the chaos and pressure, too! It truly is so fulfilling and I thank God for that low valley of my life. It brought me all of this.
